BIOGRAPHY
Spyros Pappas was born in Larisa, Greece. He took classical piano lessons from the age of 8 to 15.
Immediately after he joined "Non-Mo-Ral" as their keyboard player, During that era, he took a liking to the sound of the electric an acoustic guitar and he started to learn how to play guitar. His early influences as a guitar player were the blues and rock.
Three years later, he started working semi professional in various clubs and pubs as a guitar player, expanding his experience in the field.
In his early twenties he took classical guitar lessons.
During that period, he also started to get interested in the world of jazz and fusion.
In his mid twenties, he attended the Octava music school where he studied Classical harmony and counterpoint with Vaggelis Valatsos as tutor. After completing his studies there, he received his Harmony degree, as well as Grades in Jazz Harmony, Jazz improvisation and arrangεment.
Later on he took a job as a tutor at that same school.
Due to his on going interest in jazz and fusion,Spyros seeked extra tutoring with some of Greece's best known players, such as Marcos Alexiou, Lakis Zois, Giotis Samaras and George Kontrafouris. Through these extra lessons he expanded his knowledge in jazz and fusion. In addition to these players he also took private lessons with Giorgos Patsiaouras, Grigoris Ntanis, Vasilis Podaras and Kostas Karagiannis.
In his constant search through improvisation, Spyros decided to travel to New York to take private lessons with guitarist Wayne Krantz. While in New York he also took private lessons in jazz bebop with vibrophonist Christos Rafalides. After New York Spyros went to Boston to take a few extra lessons with blues and beyond guitarist Peter Parcek.
Upon his return from the States, he joined the stage with some of Greece's famous singers such as the late Vicky Moscholiou. Her last album recorded live at the Vergina theatre in Thessaliniki features Spyros as the guitar player.
Following the years to come, Spyros reunited with Efgenios (singer/guitarist of Non-Mo-Ral) and did a number of acoustic shows. At the same time, he also performed live with various other bands.
At this stage in his life, Spyros felt the need to expand and formalize all his previous knowledge. So, he moved to Holland and attended the Conservatory of Utrecht, where he completed his Bachelor in Jazz & Pop Guitar Performance. After that, at the same conservatory, he also completed his Master Degree in Jazz & Pop Composition. His main teachers on guitar were: Eef Albers, Wim Bronnenberg, Marcel Karreman and Eric Rutjes. His main teachers in Jazz & Pop Composition and Arranging were: Eef Albers, Randall Corsen, Wim Van Binsbergen and Bart Soeters. He also took private lessons in Composition with the late Henk Alkema.
During his stay in Holland, apart from playing in various jam sessions, he formed the Spyros Pappas group, a project where they performed his own compositions, as well as jazz-rock covers, each time featuring different musicians in its lineup.
Due to his interest in different musical approaches, rearrangements and reharmonozations, he got involved with the following projects:

Spyros Pappas also attended master-classes/workshops/clinics with:
Mike Stern, Marcus Miller, Guthrie Govan, Jonathan Kreisberg, Bert van den Brink, Richie Beirach, Gino Vannelli, Lula Galvao, Hein van de Geyn, Hans Mantel, Jason Rebello, Peter Tiehuis, Theo de Jong, Jesse van Ruller, Richard Smith, Peter Hertmans, John Riley, Ge Bijvoet, Nancy Marano, Jasper Somsen, Anton Goudsmit, Henk Sprenger, Ned McGowan (Carnatic Practices), Dr Mysore Manjunath, B.C. Manjunath, Maurice Rugebregt, Timucin Sahin, Miguel Boelens, Rembrandt Frerichs, Andre Groen, Sjahin During.
Over the years, Spyros worked as a studio musician, private teacher, and joined a lot of Greek and international bands and experimented with many styles of music, such as rock, blues, funk, pop, jazz, fusion, Greek tranditional music and brasilian music, playing in group lineups ranging from trios, large ensembles. He also performs in duos and as a solo guitarist.
Apart from the projects in Holland, some of the bands he got involved with were:
Swinging Tyranhas, Anavrazonta Diskia, Opsis, Jah Love Maria, Double Sharp, Brasilentina, Version 3.1. Round IV, Tonefusion and others.
As of 2014, Spyros teaches guitar at the music school of Larisa, does seminars in Jazz-rock fusion improvisation, while at the same time he joined the stage with Christos Papachristos, a singer songwriter and recorded the guitar and keyboard parts in various song remixes of Dj S.
In the mid of 2015, he formed the band "Spyros Pappas Trio", teaming up with Nikos Efthimiadis on bass and Nektarios Harizania on drums and he started working on his own compositions.
In 2017, the "Spyros Pappas Trio" released their debut album titled “Morphing”.
Apart from performing, teaching and studio recording, Spyros is currently writing new material for his future albums.
